BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS:
ONLY THE FIRST, FUN STEP

The Rev. Canon Megan Traquair
Canon to the Ordinary

Contrary to the Back-to-School timing of many of our childhoods, the school year is already well begun in Arizona. We have already plotted our schedules to include kid drop-offs at three separate schools that will still get parents to work on time. Or, conversely, we have re-worked our commuting route to avoid all those slow school-crossing zones.

ITEMS OF INTEREST THIS WEEK
4th Annual Episcopal Night at Chase Field

The ticket deadline is Tuesday! The Arizona Diamondbacks invite all members of the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona along with their family and friends to an exciting game of inter-division baseball as the D-backs take on the A’s on Friday, August 28 at 6:40 p.m.! Join Episcopalians from all over the diocese at Trinity Cathedral for a pre-game celebration beginning at 5:00 p.m. Complete details and ticket ordering info can be found on the event page.

Safeguarding Online Training Upgraded

As the program year begins again, now is a good time to review the diocesan sexual misconduct prevention policy and make sure that licensed or canonically resident clergy and all paid employees, as well as volunteers who have regular contact with children, have taken the Safeguarding God’s Children training. Upgrades to the system have been made, which include: being able to access Safeguarding Online with iPads and some Android tablets, updated quiz questions, and being able to print out supplementary learning guides.

Delegates Needed to Attend UN Commission
Applications are being accepted for a provincial delegate and up to 20 churchwide delegates to represent The Episcopal Church at the 60th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) in New York City, NY, March 14-24, 2016. Delegates will be able to attend the official UNCSW proceedings at the UN and will represent The Episcopal Church/Anglican Communion in their advocacy at the UN, including joint advocacy with the group Ecumenical Women. Apply here.
