POLICY AND POLITICS

The Rev. Canon Richard N. Morrison
Canon for Ecumenical and Community Relations

Each month, I visit additional congregations in our diocese to discuss the implications of the demographic data shared with our Convention attendees last October. For those who haven’t seen this data, it emphasizes some information very important to knowing our neighbors and the challenges they may be facing. Three general areas of concern are emphasized: poverty, education, and disabilities. The data also shows that the future of Arizona is going to be largely Latino.

Faith Forming Faith
If the heart of following Christ is to be an active disciple, then tools that help congregations become disciples are both practical and desirable. The Faith Forming Faith Catechumenal Training Conference is designed to move a person from Member to a baptized, practicing Disciple of Jesus. It will be held in Tucson from August 25-27, 2016 and led by Pastor Paul E. Hoffman, an author, teacher and ELCA pastor. Register here.

Peace Garden

[ECF] In 2012, neighbors believed the church was closed. It wasn’t. Four years later, there are visible signs of life at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis. The story of St. Alban’s most visible ministry is one that is causing the phone to ring and people to stop in. Read more.

Task Force Seeks Input
[TEC] The Task Force on the Study of Marriage, created at last year’s General Convention, is seeking responses from individuals, congregations and dioceses to a survey (available in English and Spanish) to gauge the use of the “Dearly Beloved” toolkit, a resource on marriage created in 2014. Multiple people from the same congregation or group may complete the survey. Because it asks for your thoughts on how the resource was used, or was not used, in your context, every response will help give a more complete picture. Read more.
