No matter our age, most of us by now have spent a considerable amount of our lives using a computer. We are all creatures of the digital age, dependent, whether we like it or not, on our laptops, tablets, and smartphones. And like it or not, technical computer terminology has become part of our everyday vocabulary.


UTO Grant Reminder

The focus of this year’s UTO Grant is “the Fifth Mark of Mission.” The submission deadline to the diocesan reviewing committee is Friday, February 19 by 5:00 p.m., and must be emailed to diocesan UTO coordinator, Kerry Jo Hanstein. An application must go through the Diocesan Review Committee prior to being sent to Bishop Smith for final approval, signature, and submission. The application can be found on the UTO website.

Recovery Weekend

On Saturday, February 20 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., The Rev. John Christopher (board member for Recovery Ministries of the Episcopal Church) and Dr.Greg Mayer will be facilitating a workshop “The Episcopal Church and Recovery: For addicts or their loved ones” at Church of the Apostles (Oro Valley). John will share his journey through rehab and nearly 21 years of sobriety, as well as his call to the priesthood. Dr. Greg Mayer will describe common substances involved in addiction and their physical consequences. There will be open discussion and an opportunity for private discussion. A light lunch will be served. John will also preach at both Sunday services on February 21 at 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. All are welcome. There is no cost to attend.




Community Garden
Have you ever thought about growing your own food? Here is your chance! St. Michael’s Community Garden (Coolidge) is having its Grand Opening celebration on Saturday, February 20 from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Bring your family and friends. Tour the garden and enjoy good eats!

Evensong and VTS Reception

Everyone is invited to Trinity Cathedral (Phoenix) at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 28 for Choral Evensong and a reception afterward hosted by Virginia Theological Seminary in the Olney Gallery. Present at the reception will be the Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) director of development, Linda Dienno, who will share updates and news from the Seminary. Many diocesan clergy hail from VTS and several are helping with plans for the reception, including the Very Rev. Troy Mendez, The Rev. Canon Whitney Kirby, The Rev. Nick Roosevelt, and The Rev. Pierre-Henry Buisson.

Sacred Illuminations: An Iconography Workshop
St. Mary’s (Phoenix) is hosting an iconography workshop from February 29-March 3, 2016, from 9:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. each day. Come learn an ancient way of prayer and contemplation through the art of “writing” an icon. No former art experience necessary! Brenda J. Fox, Iconographer, will walk you through a step by step process of learning to create an icon from start to finish. This is a time of contemplation in prayer and painting. Icons are painted in acrylics. The cost is $325 and includes all art supplies. Class size is limited. Full workshop and registration information are available on the event flyer.

Anniversary Celebration
The public is invited to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Imago Dei Middle School (Tucson) on Saturday, February 20 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Carriage House. Experience James Beard Award-Winning Chef Janos Wilder’s hearty selection of appetizers. The keynote speaker is Rev. John H. Finley, with special guest Rev. Dan Heischman. Tickets are $150/person, and can be purchased online.
