CROSSING THE BORDER |

A little more than a week ago, I traveled to Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, to be with some of the refugees seeking asylum in this country. I was deeply saddened by the suffering I witnessed, but also heartened by the good work that Deacon Rodger Babnew and his team of volunteers are doing. Your church is present with our brothers and sisters who are scared, hungry and cold, and you can feel gratified about our ministry there. Later in this article, I will tell you how you can help.

Chapel Rock is seeking responsible and caring leaders who live enthusiastically and care deeply about building relationships with others. They are looking for applicants who want to impact the lives of children and youth positively and who understand the importance of their position as mentors for young people. Prayer for Christian Unity Service
Join other Christian churches on Wednesday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills United Church of Christ ( 5524 E. Lafayette Blvd., Phoenix) as we remember the 2019 theme, “Justice, Only Justice, You Shall Pursue” (Deuteronomy 16:20). This is the official event to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in Arizona, and everyone is invited to participate along with the congregations, clergy, bishops, conference ministers, and judicatories from the Episcopal Diocese and other christian denominations across the state. ( *This event is sponsored by Arizona Faith Network, of which the Diocese is a member.)

Jazz at Twilight Concert
All are invited to attend the next in the concert series at St. John the Baptist (Glendale) on Sunday, January 27 at 6:00 p.m. This concert features the Carole Petite Trio with Carole on guitar, Dwight William on bass and Dom Moio on drums. The concert is FREE and open to the public. Refreshments will be available and a free will offering will be accepted.
