I WAS IN PRISON AND YOU VISITED ME

I began this Advent season with a visit to the women’s prison at Perryville, about 20 miles west of Phoenix. This was my second trip to worship with these women. There are about 4,000 inmates there, although my contacts have been with just one unit of about 400.

Applications accepted for Episcopal Service Corps
[ENS] Young adults (21-32 years old) are invited to apply to serve as a member of the 2019-2020 Episcopal Service Corps (ESC). “Episcopal Service Corps offers young adults the opportunity to serve others while at the same time discerning God’s call in their own lives,” says Wendy Johnson, who coordinates Episcopal Service Corps. Note: This year, the Diocese of Arizona will have an ESC community at Beloved in the Desert in Tucson, Arizona. Read more.
Bishop-Elect Consecration Gifts
We shall soon gather to celebrate the consecration our new bishop. This will be our first true opportunity to show Bishop-Elect Jennifer Reddall our support and the joy we have in calling her as our shepherd and guide. The Standing Committee of the Diocese wants everyone to have a chance to contribute to her ordination gifts, such as vestments. Please feel free to contribute at the level you can to ensure as full and robust participation of all members of the diocese as possible. You can contribute to the ordination gifts for our Bishop-Elect at this secure website.
Family Camp Registration Closing Soon
To end the twelve days of Christmas, let’s keep celebrating and ring in Epiphany together in a beautiful place. There will be stories, a campfire, carols, cocoa, crafts and lots of holiday fun to finish the season. Give yourselves the gift of time together at Chapel Rock. But don’t wait! Registration closes next Thursday, December 20.

NEWS AROUND THE DIOCESE

Posadas
Posadas are traditionally celebrated for nine nights, culminating in the Christmas Eve worship service. They are designed to reenact the story of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem and search for lodging. Many churches around the Phoenix area will be hosting one of these events between December 14 and 22. See the Diocesan Calendar to find one close to you.
