WE ARE FEARFULLY AND MARVELOUSLY MADE
This week’s E-pistle is excepted from Bishop Reddall’s presentation earlier this week at Adult Camp at Chapel Rock.

Twenty years ago this fall, I started seminary, and one of the requirements of our first semester was to go out and visit different churches’ worship services (I really wish I had done more of this!). I was with a group that went to St. Paul’s Community Baptist Church in Brooklyn, a thriving several-thousand-member African American church pastored by the Rev. Johnny Ray Youngblood, a mover and shaker in NYC for equality and bringing people up out of poverty.

ITEMS OF INTEREST THIS WEEK
Planning Your Work, Working Your Plan
[ECF] Because of my business background, I realize how important strategic visioning is for any organization – churches included. Plan your work and work your plan. However, in my first year as rector of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, there could be no heavy lifting with strategic visioning until we learned about each other and our parish – who we are and where we are. We knew whose we were! Any process to discern vision and mission first and foremost requires all engaged parties to trust one another completely. And trust is not built overnight in any organization, especially religious institutions. Read more.

Stay Prepared: Five Easy Steps for Running Drills

[CPG] Most leaders of Episcopal institutions understand the importance of disaster preparation-for natural disasters and extreme weather events, violence and criminal activity, illness breakout, and more. And, many leaders have acted by creating written plans for responding to catastrophic events. Don’t let those written plans sit on a shelf and gather dust! Read more.

NEWS AROUND THE DIOCESE
The Art of the Women of Perryville
On Saturday, September 1 from 4:00-6:00 p.m., All Saints’ (Phoenix) will host an opening reception in the Saint Barbara Gallery of artwork in different styles and mediums created by inmates at Perryville Prison. All are invited to attend. Pieces are on display and available for purchase. The exhibit runs from September 1-30.
Enneagram Retreat: Why We React The Way We Do
All are invited to attend an Enneagram Retreat from September 13 at 6:00 p.m. to September 14 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Augustine’s (Tempe). The Enneagram is a map of a powerful and dynamic personality system that describes nine distinct and fundamentally different patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting. The retreat will be facilitated by Robin Cameron, certified Enneagram Teacher in the Narrative Tradition and trained spiritual director with a strong background in 12-Step spirituality and scripture. Robin presents the Enneagram in a highly interactive setting where people discover themselves with understanding that is life-changing. Get more information and register.
