Both therapists and spiritual directors tell us that an important step to emotional and spiritual wholeness is to cultivate a sense of thankfulness. Counting one’s blessings is a powerful antidote to depression and stress.

California Episcopalians Connect Amid Wildfires
[ENS] California Episcopalians–still reeling from the deadliest wildfires in the state’s history–say they are gathering strength and resilience through community connections and an outpouring of love and concern from across the Episcopal Church. Read more. (NOTE: to assist fire victims, see the links in the story).
The Vital Outreach and Evangelism Connection
[ECF] I didn’t know that I needed to connect outreach and evangelism. Newcomers didn’t make that connection for me. I thought our coming in contact with other groups, like the families of preschool students, the Boy Scouts and those who took part in Narcotics Anonymous, was enough. I didn’t want to be pushy. What I discovered was that if someone came to a meeting at the church and no one from the congregation actually invited him or her personally to come for church, it was experienced as if we didn’t want them. NEWS AROUND THE DIOCESE

 

Sunday Night Unplugged
This event on Sunday, December 2 at 6:30 p.m. at St. John the Baptist (Glendale) will feature the finely tuned talents of Director of Youth Ministries, Joel Joa. Joel will bring Taizé and Advent classics to enhance this evening of music and meditation. Joel is a Cuban-American singer/songwriter who is known for his passion and charisma. In honor of the first Sunday of Advent, there will be readings from scripture, time for meditation, and music to help attendees prepare for the coming of the Christ Child at Christmas. Open to the public.
Handel’s Messiah (Complete) Concert
The public is invited to attend a concert on Sunday, December 2 at 3:00 p.m. at All Saints’ (Phoenix) with the All Saints’ Chamber Choir and Chamber Orchestra performing. A pre-concert lecture will begin at 2:00 p.m. Tickets for the lecture are $50 and include refreshments and preferred, reserved seating for the concert. Space is limited! To reserve a spot, contact the church office at (602) 279-5539 during normal business hours. Admission for the concert only is free, but the suggested donation is $25. All proceeds benefit Friends of Music (FOM).
